Head-On Austin Car Accident Leaves Two Injured
Two individuals were injured in a head-on collision in Austin on March 22. Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes, and there are steps you can take to reduce the likelihood that you’ll be involved in this sort of hazardous accident. Keep reading to learn more about the Austin car accident and how to avoid head-on collisions from the team at Ramos James Law, Austin car accident lawyers.

The Southwest Austin Head-On Collision

According to Austin authorities, a head-on crash in southwest Austin on Friday, March 22, left two people injured. The crash happened at around 7 a.m. on Thomas Springs Road near the Blue Hill Drive intersection. The collision resulted in a vehicle catching on fire. One of the two adult victims suffered critical life-threatening injuries in the crash, and the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Further details regarding the cause of the crash or the vehicles involved are not available at this time.

The Top Causes of Head-On Collisions

Head-on collisions can be especially dangerous due to the nature of the forces involved. Thankfully, these aren’t the most common type of crash. The top causes of head-on crashes include the following:
  • Speeding
  • Driving while distracted
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving while fatigued
  • Improper passing
  • Reckless driving
  • Poor weather or visibility
In most cases, head-on collisions occur when a vehicle temporarily moves into the path of another, oncoming vehicle. Incidents in which one vehicle is traveling the wrong way down a one-way street are less common.

How To Avoid Head-On Collisions

The best way to avoid a head-on collision is to practice safe driving techniques. This can mean simple things like driving the speed limit or more complex things like learning the proper time and place to pass other vehicles. Help keep yourself safe and prevent head-on collisions by following the tips below:
  • Drive the speed limit
  • Pass with care
  • Avoid driving in poor visibility
  • Never drive under the influence
  • Always drive carefully
  • Get proper rest before driving
  • Don’t use your phone while driving
As you can see, there are plenty of big steps you can take toward avoiding head-on collisions, but sometimes accidents occur even when we do everything we can to avoid them. In those cases, it’s important to stay calm and stay protected. Call for emergency assistance as soon as possible, and wait for police before talking to other people on the scene. If someone is injured, avoid moving them until emergency assistance arrives, unless they’re in the way of oncoming traffic. Once emergency responders arrive, you can exchange contact and insurance information with the other parties involved, and gather any relevant evidence.

If you or someone you love has been injured in an Austin car accident, an Austin car accident lawyer can help you seek justice.
