Driver Fatigue: Facts and Tips
If you ever find yourself in a situation where you are tired and must get behind the wheel, there is one simple solution: don’t do it.
Did you know fatigue can cause impaired judgment? In some ways, driving while tired is almost the same as drunk driving. There are roughly 100,000 reported accidents every year as a result of driving when tired according to the National Highway Safety Administration. The exact number is not certain because it is hard to dictate when a driver is truly fatigued.
How to Avoid Car Accidents Caused by Driving Tired
Next time you catch yourself yawning and feeling drowsy while on the road, please park somewhere safe like a rest stop and take a nap. A few rounds of exercises or an impromptu karaoke session at a rest stop or safe area can also wake you up.
Caffeine or energy boosting foods before hitting the road again can also help you, but do remember, caffeine and cat naps are only short-term remedies for sleepiness.
Nothing beats getting a full night’s rest the day before your trip.
