Attorney Alberto de la Torre
A Laredo, Texas native, Attorney Alberto de la Torre studied political science beginning in 2004 at St. Edward’s University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. During this time, he was selected for the Thomas M. Keel Scholarship, which placed him with the Texas Legislative Budget Board. He was also selected for the Moreno Rangel Scholarship, where he served as a legislative aide to State Representative Mike Villarreal. After graduating, Mr. de la Torre worked as a policy analyst and program coordinator for the Mexican American Legislative Caucus and the Mexican American Legislative Leadership Foundation.
In 2010, Mr. de la Torre was admitted to study law at the University of Texas at Austin. While in law school, Mr. de la Torre participated extensively with the immigration clinic, where he worked in a wide variety of cases including asylum, U-Visa, and other affirmative application processes. He also helped organize and run the UT Law Immigration Clinic, which helped hundreds of DREAMERS attain DACA. This experience gave him a deep understanding of what underprivileged communities go through in order to live in this country and better their lives.
Mr. de la Torre continued this work after Law School, completing a post-graduate fellowship with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), providing pro-bono help to Texas Refugee Services in Dallas, Texas and even traveling to an immigrant detention facility where he helped asylees prepare their claims. For the past five years, Mr. de la Torre has practiced Social Security Disability Law succeeding in hundreds of claims all over Texas. Mr. de la Torre is an experienced and compassionate advocate who has helped injured folks for years. He is excited to join Ramos James Law, where he can continue to help people.
